Leaking showers cause more damage than is generally realised. Left unchecked, leaking water can get into the floors or walls, causing the wood to rot. If this water gets under the house there can be foundation damage. And this can threaten the integrity of the building. Even if there is no damage to the building a bathroom problem like a leaking shower can cause mold. This is bad for health.
In some cases, the shower leaking can be very adequately waterproofed by applying a sealant over and underneath leaking spots. This allows us to remove the problem while retaining the tiles. This is a cost-effective solution.
In some cases, there is a need to remove tiles in order to fix the problem. This is more labour-intensive than waterproofing with a sealant, but the re-tiling and re-grouting process will give you a safe, fully functional shower. This might be necessary to prevent water ponding in low parts of the tiled floor.
